Audit Senior - Public Sector

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Public Sector Audit Senior based in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Main duties

  • To deliver high quality work and services to clients of the firm, within the firm’s standards, budget and timescales
  • To act as an assignment / project senior

Skills required

  • Ensure that all work carried out complies with the firm’s standards and procedures, and that the work is within budget and to the expected timeframes
  • Ensure a high level quality in all work produced (including the review of the work of others in the team) and apply all relevant technical disclosures to client work during the planning phase and ensure all requirements are met (e.g. statutory filing deadlines etc.)
  • Take responsibility for your own work and ensure that files are completed to the standard expected by managers
  • Manage time effectively and prioritise work, know when to communicate potential issues to manager, including providing regular progress updates to both manager and client on work being completed and ensure that all time is accurately recorded and maintained on a daily basis
  • Prepare accurate, timely and detailed management reports, letters of representation, fees and correspondence ready for issue to the client
  • Identify technical and business issues specific to a client, i.e. tax, fraud, risk related issues and suggest solutions to the manager / partner
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships using effective, appropriate and timely communication methods
  • Develop a communication plan for each client to take initiative for contacting client before / after audit to enhance / build relationships (agree with client manager)
  • Attend audit clearance meetings / audit committee meetings
  • Seek opportunities to get involved in tendering opportunities through research / drafting sections of tenders / assisting with presentations
  • Recommend additional services of the firm to the manager / partner that the client would benefit from receiving
  • Liaise with other departments on their involvement and progress with requests
  • Set up internal briefing meetings for key clients
  • Consider opportunities for drafting articles / thought pieces for e-bulletins / PS publications
  • Consider opportunities for attending networking events, for example run by professional bodies
  • Brief employees on work required and check their understanding before allowing them to proceed, to delegate effectively and supervise work appropriately
  • Provide constructive feedback to employees via the firm’s appraisal process (ROAD) and other ongoing appraisal processes as required
  • Provide coaching, support and on-the-job training to team members
  • Encourage junior members of the team to take responsibility for their own work
  • Seek opportunities to be involved in non-chargeable activity which will contribute to the development of the public sector and internal audit team e.g. training.
  • Demonstrate the interpersonal skills to be able to deal with a range of professional situations
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to be able to use all relevant software packages on a daily basis and in accordance with the firm’s procedures
  • Act as a role model in terms of completing work and maintaining high standards throughout all work delivered
  • Keep all technical knowledge up-to-date and to actively seek to increase personal knowledge and skills on the range of services that the firm can provide to clients
  • Identify gaps in own skills / knowledge and discuss suitable training and / or development solutions to address these
  • Aid professional development through attendance at some client meetings or audit committee meetings during the year
