Internal Audit Assistant Manager/Manager

We are looking for a confident, motivated and experienced Internal Audit Assistant Manager/Manager to support partners, directors and managers in the delivery of a range of Internal Audit services.

Assistant Manager

We are looking for a highly motivated and innovative Assistant Manager to join our Business Technology Consulting (BTC) team in our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices.

A BTC Assistant Manager works with clients to help them address technology risks around areas diverse as IT governance and controls, IT programme and project delivery, Cyber Security, Data Analytics and Digital Transformation. While we do not expect a candidate to have experience in all of these areas, the successful candidate will have a passion for helping organizations manage technology risks.

The ideal candidate will have experience of both managing client facing assignments and of people management as the role involves acting as the key point of contact for clients as well as assuming responsibility for the work of more junior members of staff where appropriate.

We are looking for a highly motivated and forward-thinking Graduate to join our Business Technology and Consulting (BTC) teams based across our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices.

Looking for an insight into life at Scott Moncrieff?

We pride ourselves in being one of the most dynamic and progressive firms of accountants with a wide range of clients; ranging from individuals, family businesses and large corporates across Scotland and from all types of sectors. We take time to understand our clients, their objectives, businesses and the markets that they operate in, allowing us to provide an advisory service to help our client’s businesses grow.

Our paid internship programme allows you to gain real experience and gives you a taste of what a traineeship with the firm would be like. It allows you to get a feel for working life at Scott Moncrieff, and helps you decide if our culture and environment is somewhere where you could see yourself training upon graduation. Our internship programme is typically for 6-8 weeks during July to September each year. You will get exposure to a number of areas within the firm, which may include time within Business Advisory Services, Tax, Audit etc. (dependent on office location), working alongside our team of trainees and experienced staff.

We are looking for those interested in a career in accountancy and our programme is aimed at those in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of university.

Technological advances are continually changing the way we do business, but they present real risk as well as promise.

What will I learn?

You will study on a 4-year degree programme towards a BSc (Hons) Data Science at Edinburgh Napier University. Initially you will complete 1 day per week at University and 4 days per week of workplace learning. What you do in work will also count towards your degree, where you will gain vital industry experience in the following areas:

  • Statistical techniques 
  • Data analytics
  • Data Science engineering
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Business – global business including working in an agile team and business communications
  • Personal & interpersonal skills – Interacting with a team of experienced and motivated people, offering guidance and recommendations for technical decision making, collaborating with the test team to validate and verify the quality of the solutions, preparing status reports and updating your managers
  • Project management – Dealing with multiple tasks and projects and solving problems quickly and accurately

What qualification or qualities are required?

You’ll have a head start in this vacancy if you’ve completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in a related field. We’ll need you to provide evidence of your qualification and show you gained the relevant skills from your placement

Academic requirements: A minimum of four SQA Highers at Grade B (or equivalent) including Computing or Maths plus Nat 5 English at C. Nat 5 Maths at C is also required if not taken at Higher unless you can show strong technical ability through work experience or extra-curricular activities

OR

A Foundation Apprenticeship in a related discipline plus suitable academic qualification similar to the above

OR

A Modern Apprenticeship in a related discipline

The below qualities are also required: - Basic knowledge and keen interest in Data Science - Showing creativity and interest in coming up with new ideas and solutions - A passion for learning and keeping up to date with the latest technology and design concepts.

What will I learn?

As a Graduate Apprentice based in our Edinburgh/Glasgow office you will be part of a small but dynamic team. As we work with a wide range of clients in different sectors and of varying size you may find yourself working for a large client for several months or working on a multitude of different companies during the week. There will be opportunities for training offered during your Apprenticeship, both internal and external. A mentor will be assigned to you for any questions you have, however our whole team will be happy to help and support wherever they can.

Your role will be varied, and our apprenticeships offer a great opportunity for candidates looking to build a successful and rewarding career in the Cyber Security arena. You will study on a 4-year degree programme towards a BEng (Hons) Cyber Security at Edinburgh Napier University. Initially you will complete 1 day per week at University and 4 days per week of workplace learning. What you do in work will also count towards your degree, where you will gain vital industry experience in the following areas:

  • Hardware
  • Multiple Vendors’ hardware and Virtual Editions, gaining valuable hands-on experience.
  • Software – Learn automation skills (Ansible, OpenShift, Dokker), REST API skills, TCL programming
  • Business – Including business communications and working with different stakeholders throughout the company
  • Interpersonal skills – Interacting with colleagues, offering recommendations for technical decision making, preparing reports for management
  • Project management
  • Dealing with multiple tasks and projects.
