The Society was founded in 1805 and constituted under the Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1903. Scottish Charity Number SCO04365.

An allowance is given quarterly to assist in providing extra help. The Society, however, is not in a position to consider isolated requests to meet single emergencies. Please see application form for medical criteria.
