We provide a combination of services designed to enhance the performance, management and recovery of debt. These include pre-lending reviews, independent viability reviews, strategic assessments, security advice, and business turnarounds working
alongside management. Where necessary we undertake formal insolvency appointments to ensure maximum asset recovery.
We understand that businesses are supported by many different types of finance. Corporate and commercial banks, asset-backed lenders, bondholders and providers of mezzanine finance or subordinated debt will all have valid but potentially competing interests.
We are trusted to lead the often complex negotiations required to achieve a workable solution for the various lenders to a distressed business.
Our understanding of the needs of lenders is based not only on our track record of past service provision. We have a tradition of sending our professionals on secondment to financial institutions, reinforcing our insight into their priorities and procedures.
We can help you develop and implement plans to improve your cash flow management.
When businesses are underperforming or experiencing financial distress, there may be a range of restructuring options available - both financial and operational. We advise private equity providers on the potential solutions available, and which are most likely to maximise returns.
We are often brought in to identify underperforming business areas and develop strategies for improvement. In addition to working with management to achieve a business turnaround, we also advise on and implement exit strategies for investors. In doing so, we draw on appropriate expertise from within Scott-Moncrieff, such as corporate finance and tax. We also collaborate with other external experts in order to achieve the best outcome.
Services to suppliers and credit providers
When customers delay payment, we can help. We offer credit management advisory services to suppliers and credit providers, enabling them to protect their interests and minimise the risk of bad debts. If suppliers are faced with a customer that has entered an insolvency process, we can assist by opening a dialogue with the office holder and, for example, ensuring retention of title rights are respected.
We have particular expertise in a number of sectors, such as property and construction, printing and paper industries, electrical trades, IT and telecommunications, financial services and regulated industries, shipping, transport and logistics, insurance, energy and natural resources, manufacturing, hotels and leisure, motor and retail.
Prevention is better than cure. We are regularly called on to advise companies before they become insolvent. We can assist management in monitoring the financial position of a business, helping to devise and implement recovery and restructuring plans.
We understand the challenges involved in communicating with numerous stakeholders, some of whom may have conflicting interests. We work hard to achieve consensus between such parties on a preferred, optimal solution.
Should insolvency be unavoidable, we have experience in handing the full range of formal appointments. Where it is not possible to rescue the corporate entity itself, we have a proven track record of achieving a sale of the underlying business as a going concern. Selling the business as a going concern, sometimes reconstructed, benefits creditors as well as the proprietors.
We work effectively with turnaround experts to diagnose areas of business underperformance, particularly those affecting liquidity. We can act as a catalyst for change, helping to develop and implement plans for improved cash flow management. Where business restructuring is required, we can bring in experts to facilitate asset sales and other elements of the strategic turnaround plan.
Services to other professionals
We work closely with other professionals, providing a trusted, discreet and flexible service. Our aim is to build long-term relationships, based on mutual respect. We will respond quickly to all enquiries, seeking to gain a fast and accurate understanding of the issues in question. Whether required to facilitate a formal insolvency procedure, corporate
restructuring or monitor a business for its ongoing solvency, we have the necessary expertise.
Though experienced lead advisers, we are also happy to work in supporting roles, tailoring our input to meet the circumstances of each individual assignment. We are sensitive to international situations, and comfortable working with overseas professionals to help them handle UK-based assets as part of a cross-border insolvency or restructuring
project. We understand the need for risk management in such situations and aim to deliver clean, efficient solutions for all concerned.
We have specialists in handling the affairs of partnerships and individuals. We appreciate that the close bonds between the interests of the business and its owners demand a different approach from that required in assignments concerning corporate entities.
