Scott-Moncrieff expands business advisory team

SCOTT-MONCRIEFF BUSINESS ADVISORY TEAM EXPANDS

Paul Thompson (42) has joined Scott-Moncrieff as a Business Advisory partner, adding further commercial experience to the firm following his eight years at Glasgow-based Lift Maintenance Limited, with whom he was General Manager.

Nick Bennett, Scott-Moncrieff managing partner, comments:

“This is an important appointment for the firm as Paul brings additional appreciation of the real challenges that face business owners and managers. He brings tremendous practical knowledge of what it is like ‘at the coalface’, and that will benefit our clients, particularly those running SMEs.”

Having trained as an accountant with Scott-Moncrieff, Paul left his position as Senior Audit Manager in 2000 to take over the financial reins at Lift Maintenance Limited. He then became General Manager and in the time he was there saw turnover at the company rise from £2.4 million to over £7 million, and staff increase from 30 to 74.

Paul Thompson comments:

“These are challenging times for many companies and I believe that clients value accountancy firms that genuinely understand their businesses and help them to operate more efficiently. To be an effective accountant it is not enough to simply meet legislative obligations, but it is imperative to develop a close working relationship with company owners and managers in order to act as an advisor who helps them optimise business performance across all aspects of their company.

“I recently decided to return to the profession and had a few interesting offers, but when the opportunity was presented to rejoin Scott-Moncrieff I had no hesitation in accepting. It is an excellent team here and I also know that for those developing their career in accountancy this firm offers great scope. It is large enough to offer the full service provision required to meet client needs across both public and private sectors, yet not so large that the individual simply becomes a number.  I am delighted to be back and to be able to play a part in taking the firm forward.”

Paul Thompson will be based in Scott-Moncrieff’s Glasgow office and will be working, along with his colleagues, to provide Business Advisory services primarily to companies in the small to medium range (up to c. £15 million turnover), plus specialist negotiation advice for public sector bodies dealing with private sector contractors and suppliers.
