VAT Consultant/Manager

We are currently looking for a VAT Manager to join our Edinburgh or Glasgow office. You should be able to manage client portfolios and relationships effectively and proactively, manage and develop employees within the team to ensure the delivery of a quality service to clients and develop positive working relationships within the team and with other departments. 

Main duties

  • • Ensure work progresses in line with team procedures and within budget, to the expected timescales and that a high quality file is prepared in compliance with the firm’s standards and procedures
  • • Apply all relevant technical disclosures to client work
  • • Manage the expectations of clients and ongoing client relationships through appropriate and timely communication
  • • Prepare for and attend client meetings when asked to do so
  • Manage work in progress on client portfolio against agreed budgets, maximise recoveries on client portfolio against agreed targets, prepare fees as appropriate and highlight any potential problems ahead of time
  • Identify relevant planning, technical and business issues specific to a client, i.e. tax/fraud/risk related issues and suggest solutions to the client engagement partner
  • Be able to manage time effectively and know when to communicate potential issues to partner
  • Ensure regular communication with client engagement partner regarding their clients
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships, be involved in client seminars and training sessions
  • Be an ambassador of the firm
  • Technical - excellent knowledge of the following issues: o VAT registrations and deregistrations o Liability of income o Recovery of VAT on expenditure o Capital Goods Scheme o Land and property issues o EU acquisitions and despatches o Imports and exports
  • Actively seek new business development opportunities for the firm using market knowledge and event attendance
  • Be able to identify potential selling opportunities for the firm and make suggestions
  • Assist in the preparation of tenders to prospective clients when required
  • Join a sector group and actively participate
  • Be involved in the management and identification of employee resource requirements of the group
  • Act as a professional role model to others within the team and firm in all dealings with colleagues and clients
  • Use all relevant software packages confidently and to be able to teach others
  • Manage own workload proactively, identifying conflicts and work with senior managers/director to resolve the situation, to use delegation effectively to the benefit of others
