Audit senior / Assistant manager - Public Sector, Internal Audit

We are looking for a newly qualified audit senior or assistant manager to join our Edinburgh or Glasgow Public Sector audit team.

The firm have opportunities for progression for the right candidates and you will be working with one of the largest teams in the firm. 

Main duties

  • To deliver high quality work and services to clients of the firm, within the firm’s standards, budgets and timescales
  • To assist managers in delivering services to clients (note this may be as an assignment / project senior)
  • To manage a portfolio of clients (where appropriate)
  • To develop management skills and support manager

Skills required

  • Ensure that all work carried out complies with the firm’s standards and procedures, and that the work is within budget and to the expected timeframes, and that a high quality file is prepared
  • Ensure the quality of all work produced (including the review of the work of others in the team) and to apply all relevant technical disclosures to client work during planning phase and to ensure all requirements are met (e.g. statutory filing deadlines etc)
  • Manage time effectively and prioritise work; know when to communicate potential issues and solutions to manager/partner
  • Prepare accurate, timely and detailed management reports, letters of representation, fees and correspondence ready for issue to the client
  • Prepare for and attend client meetings when asked to do so
  • Manage work in progress levels and recoveries against agreed budgets / targets for own portfolio (where appropriate)
  • Identify technical and business issues specific to a client, i.e. tax, fraud, risk related issues and suggest solutions to the manager/partner
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships using effective, appropriate and timely communication methods
  • Develop a communication plan for each client to take initiative for contacting client before / after audit to enhance / build relationships (agree with client manager)
  • Attends audit clearance meetings/audit committee meetings
  • Identify efficiencies and improvements in the audit process
  • Book employees to complete audit visits at times agreed with client in advance
  • Seek opportunities to get involved in tendering opportunities through research / drafting sections of tenders / assisting with presentations
  • Liaise with other teams on their involvement and progress with requests
  • Lead internal briefing meetings for key clients
  • Consider opportunities for drafting articles / thought pieces for e-bulletin /PS publications
  • Brief employees on work required and check their understanding before allowing them to proceed, to delegate effectively and to supervise work appropriately
  • Act as a professional role model to others within the team and firm in all dealings with colleagues and clients
  • Provide constructive feedback to employees via the firm’s appraisal process (ROAD) and other ongoing appraisal processes as required
  • Provide coaching, support and on-the-job training to team members
  • Be involved in non-chargeable activity which contributes to the development of the public sector and internal audit team e.g. training, graduate recruitment, business development, contributing to achievement of strategic, sector and business plans
  • Demonstrate the interpersonal skills to be able to deal with a range of professional situations
  • Demonstrate good presentation skills
  • Manages own workload proactively, identifying conflicts and works with managers to resolve the situation
