Employment Tax Assistant Manager

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Employment Tax Assistant Manager to join our Glasgow/Edinburgh office.

Main duties

  • To deliver quality work and service to clients of the firm, within the firm’s standards and within the budgets set
  • To act as a project senior
  • To manage a portfolio of clients (where appropriate)
  • To develop management skills and support the director
  • To complete consultancy work on a regular basis
  • Ensure that all work carried out complies with the firm’s standards and procedures, and that the work is within budget and to the expected timeframes
  • Provide advice and consultancy work to clients
  • Ensure the quality of all work produced (including the review of the work of others in the team) and to apply all relevant technical disclosures to client work during planning phase and to ensure all requirements are met (e.g. statutory filing deadlines etc.)
  • Manage time effectively and prioritise work, to know when to communicate potential issues to manager, including providing regular progress updates to both manager and client on work being completed and to ensure that all time is accurately recorded and maintained on a daily basis
  • Manage work in progress levels and recoveries against agreed budgets/targets for own portfolio (where appropriate)
  • Assist with the preparation of tenders by gathering appropriate and accurate information
  • Identify technical and business issues specific to a client, i.e. tax, fraud, risk related issues and suggest solutions to the manager/partner
  • Recommend additional services of the firm to the manager/partner that the client would benefit from
  • Liaise with other teams on their involvement and progress with requests
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships using effective, appropriate and timely communication methods
  • Provide coaching, support and on-the-job training to tax team members
  • Provide tax training to the audit and business advisory teams as required
  • Opportunity to act up when director is absent
  • Manage own time effectively; chargeable hours and recoveries in line with the strategic plan
  • Manage client jobs and continue to maintain positive client relationships
  • Prepare and attend client meetings supported by partner as required
  • Actively cross-see the services of the firm to clients, continually looking for and consider the benefit of new ideas to sell to the client
  • Be involved in tendering opportunities through research and presentations – develop presenting skills
  • Develop and maintain personal technical knowledge relevant to particular fields or specialisms and share this with the wider team
  • Communicate effectively at all levels using a variety of communication tools
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of those who you line manage and conduct ROAD reviews
  • Take an active role in the recruitment and selection of new employees
  • Manage own WIP and ensure fees are prepared promptly
  • Keep all technical knowledge up-to-date and actively seek to increase personal knowledge
  • Provide coaching, support and on-the-job training to team members
  • Delegate effectively and supervise work appropriately
  • Become involved in non-chargeable activity which contributes to the development of the team (e.g. training, recruitment, business development, strategic and sector plans)
